Modern Churn (Sat Nov 30/24)

The traditional Churn Dash block gets a modern update with this fun lap quilt, showing overlapping and stretched churn dash blocks. 

Quilt finishes at 50" x 60".

FABRIC AND SUPPLY REQUIREMENTS
See the back of the pattern for fabric needs. **Please note that Fabric B includes yardage for binding. Should you prefer another fabric as binding, reduce the B fabric by .4m and add it to the fabric of your choice.
The pattern requirements listed on the back will provide ample fabric.
For those of you who prefer to avoid leftover fabric, here is Carolyn's suggestion:
Fabric A: increase to 2.5m if you would like the background and binding to be the same
Fabric B: can reduce by .4m if you are not using this fabric for binding
Fabric C: 1m
Fabric D: .4m
Fabric E: .3m

Marking tool/pen/pencil for marking half square triangles
Organizing system for cut fabrics: pins, labels or clips (whatever floats your boat). Here is a great labelled pin set by Gypsy Quilter!
Basic Sewing Kit (see below what we mean by this :)

PREP WORK BEFORE CLASS
Pre-cut your fabric. We highly suggest using a starch (or Best Press) prior to cutting. 
Label your cuts, noting the sizes (so much easier to find what you are looking for when you need it)
Fabric A: No need to cut the 3.5" strip, as the sub-cuts required can easily be cut from the leftovers of other strips
Fabric C: Only cut TWO 6.5" strips to start with. You should be able to make the remaining sub-cuts from those two strips

*WHAT IS IN A BASIC SEWING KIT:
For most of our classes we ask you to bring (along with your sewing machine) a 'basic sewing kit' which usually contains: rotary cutter and/or scissors, cutting mat, small snipping scissors, straight pins & a pin cushion or collector, seam ripper, a spool of neutral 50 wt cotton thread, extra bobbins, notebook & pen/pencil, tape measure/ruler(s), etc.

CLASS CANCELLATION POLICY:
Classes are non-refundable. No credit or refund will be given for a "no show" in class, regardless of reason. So please ensure that you are able to attend before signing up. You are welcome to arrange for someone else to take your spot in the class instead. Around The Block reserves the right to cancel classes/events for any reason. If this happens, you will be refunded your full class fee.
