FABRIC & SUPPLY REQUIREMENTS
Refer to the back of the pattern - here is the breakdown though:
Upcycle version - a quilt approx 42" x 60"
We suggest laying out your quilt on the floor and laying out your pieces on top, taking into consideration that one piece needs an edge on the fold and some pieces need to be cut twice.
Pockets - either left over bits from cutting up the quilt or 2 fat quarters
Pieced version - 12 fat quarters (with 2 more fat quarters if you want pockets)
For both versions:
Lining - 2m (sizes XS, M), 2.5m (sizes L, XL and XXL) *suggest adding .5m if having a longarmer quilt the segments for you
Batting of choice (bamboo has a nice drape, cotton/wool blend is warmer) - 1.6m
Bias Binding - 1 Fat Quarter
**our favourite (and in our minds the easiest!) way to make bias binding that needs only ONE seam! A Fat Quarter will result in 14ft of binding! Note: when you match up your lines (after scootching over by one line!) keep in mind that the part of the line you are matching up is 1/4" from the edge of the fabric (you are matching where your seam will be)
Buttons - 4 - 6 (depending on your preference)
Coordinating thread for top stitching
SUGGESTED SUPPLIES
Marking tool (Hera marker) or fabric pen/pencil
Wonderclips - helps keep layers together without using pins
PREP WORK BEFORE CLASS
Upcycle version - bring your uncut quilt with you and have your bias binding made
Pieced version - complete steps 1 though 7 then quilt as desired
*if using a longarmer, add .5m to your lining cut
WHAT IS IN A BASIC SEWING KIT:
For most of our classes we ask you to bring (along with your sewing machine) a 'basic sewing kit' which usually contains: rotary cutter and/or scissors, cutting mat, small snipping scissors, straight pins & a pin cushion or collector, seam ripper, a spool of neutral 50 wt cotton thread, extra bobbins, notebook & pen/pencil, tape measure/ruler(s), etc.
CLASS CANCELLATION POLICY:
Classes are non-refundable. No credit or refund will be given for a "no show" in class, regardless of reason. So please ensure that you are able to attend before signing up. You are welcome to arrange for someone else to take your spot in the class instead. Around The Block reserves the right to cancel classes/events for any reason. If this happens, you will be refunded your full class fee.
