Learn to Quilt (Tues Feb 17, Mar 3 & 10 2026) Private Class

PRIVATE CLASS
Learn all the things you need to know to successfully make a quilt from start to finish (included binding).

This easy "layer cake" style quilt uses large pre-cut 10" squares.
As a beginner quilter (welcome to the club!), we will provide all the quilting supplies you will need to make your quilt.
Should you have a sewing machine, in good working order, feel free to bring it to class.
Otherwise, we do have classroom machines for a nominal fee - call the store to reserve 780-354-3423 or indicate in the notes you would like a machine when your register online.

FABRIC AND SUPPLY REQUIREMENTS
One Layer Cake (pre-cut 10" squares that come in a bundle of 40-42). You will need 42 squares to make this quilt. *If your layer cake only has 40 squares, just add 2 Fat Quarters or 2 10" squares
Backing fabric: 3.25m of regular quilting cotton/flannel, or 1.5m of 80-108" widebacking
Binding fabric: .5m
Batting: 1.6m cut (of 96" wide batting)
Neutral Thread for piecing your quilt (cream, tan, grey etc)
Thread that coordinates with your binding fabric
Thread that coordinates with your backing fabric

Basic Sewing Kit (see below what we mean by this :)

SUGGESTED/HANDY TOOLS
Best Press or Acorn Spray - alternative to starch for your fabric (helps keep fabric from fraying and makes fabrics easy to work with when cutting)

PREP WORK BEFORE CLASS
No prep work required. 

*WHAT IS IN A BASIC SEWING KIT:
For most of our classes we ask you to bring (along with your sewing machine) a 'basic sewing kit' which usually contains: rotary cutter and/or scissors, cutting mat, small snipping scissors, straight pins & a pin cushion or collector, seam ripper, a spool of neutral 50 wt cotton thread, extra bobbins, notebook & pen/pencil, tape measure/ruler(s), etc.

CLASS CANCELLATION POLICY:
Classes are non-refundable, however they are transferable. No credit or refund will be given for a "no show" in class, regardless of reason. 
Around The Block reserves the right to cancel classes for any reason. If this happens, you will be refunded your full class fee.
